Naomi hears Kanue ask if she is okay. "Yeah I'm fine, now lets go find that big ass hollow shall we?" She ran towards the direction it was jumping over routes and fallen underbrush.

Duggo looked long and hard at his teammates. What he saw worried him. While Daisuke was more than able to hold his own (goddamn but Duggo didn't want to ever find himself looking at Daisuke as a foe), Zetsumei was in bad shape. Duggo was no healer, but he did at least know basic first aid and such.

Duggo turned to Daisuke and said, "You take care of that hollow. I'm gonna take care of Zetsumei."

With that, Duggo commenced to use his limited skills in healing to help Zetsumei.

GM note: scratch former attack plans. If parry is possible, please allow; otherwise, all attention is devoted to Zetsumei this round.

Hikari's whole body was shaking as she stared at the massive Hollow. Her heat was beating a mile a minute, and her chest felt like it was a...

...big, pink balloon, bobbing up and down in the air, it's goofy face grinning at the little girl who sat on the wall, kicking her feet. Hikari smiled back, giggling a little. The air was so musty and salty and warm and it made her want to just close her eyes and lie back. Of course, if she did lie back, she'd fall off the wall, straight into the sea like she had a few hours ago, but Daddy'd bought her lots of presents to make up for it. Daddy always knew how to make everything better again, no matter what. Even when she found out that her sister wasn't coming on this trip, he'd shown her that pink hibiscus hairclip , and just like that, her worries had melted away.

Hikari stared up at the bright blue sky, wondering just what kind of present she could buy for Kage-chan. That is, until her eyes fell on the tall, well-built man walking towards her.

"Daddy!!!"

With a squeal of delight, she jumped down off the wall and ran towards him, opening her arms and forgetting the balloon completely.

But Daddy just stood there, his face almost completely blank as he looked down at her.

"Hikari-chan...it's your mother. She's...

...dead for sure, unless, maybe she could-

Hikari darted a glance at Maka, before Running After the blond-haired boy, Satoko. She didn't think they stood a chance against that massive Hollow, but part of her couldn't be outdone by someone like Baka. It was the dumbest thing she'd ever done, but if she could get Satoko to turn around, then maybe they'd have a chance at fighting it.

[OOC: Sorry everyone for the delay. Blame me, not Hikari.-Ash]

Without a word, the shadow girl ran as fast as she could, her mind racing in a dizzying rush as her legs propelled her in the direction of her sister's team. Her heart was pounding and everything seemed to be happening in slow motion...Something strange was rising up through her mind...like a bubble of air in a small garden pond...

It shouldn't have happened. It was supposed to be an ordinary mission, nothing that should be able to [i/]kill[i] one of them. But Rikiki Brown had died, right under the watch of her...

...servants. Butlers, bodyguards, people were supposed to watch over them. People who were always there, marching through the house like ants, always moving, never stopping, ever-ready to serve. And yet somehow, Ashibue didn't remember there being any servants in the room. Just a tall, elegant body evaporating into soft blue light. A dull, hungry pang in the middle of her tiny chest. Tears streaming down her face as she sobbed, softly, knees drawn up to her chest.

There was just no way that their mother could be...

...dead. And by the sheer oppresive feel of this new Hollow's reiatsu, she wouldn't be the last of them, either.

Daisuke swung his sheathed sword like a baseball bat, smashing the final Hollow in the face. With another strike, he brought it down over his head, shattering its mask and sending it reeling before fading into blue light.

"Hey, hang on, pal," said Duggo, reaching into the pocket of his leather jacket and pulling out a small bandage. "Stay with us, ok? Jeez, how do you use this thing again...," he said, fumbling with it, slowly unwrapping it. The inner side of the bandage was coated with some sort of blue paste, and Duggo slowly tied the wrap around one of Zetsumei's wounds.

"Let's go," Daisuke nodded firmly. "Our friends are in danger."

Duggo and Zetsumei nodded back.

======================================

Ximenez led the way as he, Kanue, and Naomi darted through the woods, their target clear.

======================================

The first thing Maka saw was Satoko completely lose it and run screaming back away from the Hollow and into the woods. That wasn't good.

"Satoko!" Hikari yelled. "

"Wha...?!" Maka sputtered. "You've got to be... I can't... Hikari, I could use some help he--!"

A terrible cry shook the forest as the Hollow made its move, opening its mouth. Maka could see the reiatsu forming as it prepared to fire. And its target was...

KYAAAAAAHHHHHHHNN....!!!

The Hollow loosed a soul-piercing cry and a beam of fearsome violet energy from its mouth. Maka dodged as it tore through the forest, vaporizing leaves and turning trees into scrap wood. And, with a loud scream, Hikari took the brunt of the blast. She was lifted off her feet and driven bodily right through a series of trees, sending splinters flying and treetops crashing to the ground. A spurt of blood shot from her mouth as her back slammed into a tree too large to be smashed by her small body. Her head wrenched backwards and she collapsed to the ground, shaking strangely. Satoko continued his panicked flight into the forest unabated.

======================================

Feeling her sister's reiatsu starting to fade just like Rikiki's, Ashibue sucked in a breath and ran even faster, determined to get there before she lost someone else close to her.

Igarashi stayed hot on her heels.

=======================================

"No, Hikari...," Anshou looked sadly in the direction of Maka's team.

"Yeah, I felt it too," Tenkawa sighed.

Anshou gripped the hilt of his zanpakutou and pointed it in the direction of the Hollow. "Let's go," he said to the other two.

========================================

Maka grit her teeth. "You damn monster!" The anger rising to her face, the brunette tore forward and took a mighty swipe at the Hollow's leg.

With a clang, her sword richocheted off its tough skin without leaving so much as a scratch.

And with one comrade gone, and another apparently down for the count, Maka found herself facing the beast alone, knowing full well that it would be ages before any help would arrive.

Nothing. Her attack had done nothing. As if that wasn't discouraging enough, Takeshi fled the scene in fear. Kasahara had failed to notice his absence until Hikari spoke up after his departure. She managed to do nothing for the group; there wasn't a single scratch inflicted upon the hollow infront of her. She couldn't protect them.

Her thoughts began to get manic as her situation slowly sunk in. Beads of sweat formed from her brow and slid down as the grip upon her weapon weakened and shook. Her mouth hung open as she started breathing heavily. Takeshi left them. Why? Weren't they a team? Kasahara tried to reason with herself; she was telling herself that he left them to gather help, but deep down she knew that it wasn't true. She knew he was frightened as soon as the Hollow approached. His tangle of words when referring to the monster made it apparent that he was more than fearful of it. Her stomach was jittery upon realizing this betrayal. She was sure that he wouldn't come back. Hikari was down for the count too; the sight of her blood caused Kasahara to shiver, adding to her already nauseous feeling.

The tough girl, the only one standing up to the hollow right now, raised her eyes to meet its gaze. She held a panicked and desperate look within her eyes. She was alone now; Kasahara didn't need to pretend to be strong anymore...

The brunette was in trouble again and required assistance, but there would not be any for her at the moment. She felt defenseless, much like that time before. Would he come to rescue her? It was a false hope. She knows that he would not come. It has been more than 3 years since then and he had not appeared. There had been no hints or traces of him, but she still hung onto his memory...

She began struggling with herself, trying to decide what to do. Her first instinct would be to run, following Takeshi's example. Atleast she wouldn't be alone anymore. Unfortunately, she couldn't; fleeing would result in leaving Hikari defenseless and there would be guilt on her conscious. She just couldn't do that. Her Zanpakutou throbs once in her light grip, seeking her attention. She still held that fearful look, but her focus left the hollow and was drawn to her blade. Try again, it wordlessly urged her. They haven't spoken since she tried to communicate with it in class, but having its support gave her the courage to atleast try to attack again.

Kasahara, in her terrified state, swung weapon at the hollow again.

Air. He needed air.

Coughing and wheezing, Satoko slowed his pace untill he reached a halt, taking in great, rushed breaths in a desperate attempt to reinflate his lungs. Air shot in, but no matter how breaths it took, it didn't sem to be enough, the pain in his chest stayed, unwavering even once his lungs were full again. Satoko kept gasping for air, but it didn't help. The pain stayed, stinging pain, piercing, red-hot pain. No matter how much air he took in, his chest hurt, and eventually Satoko realized why.

"W-wait... it's not that..." Takeshi finally came to understand that it was his scar irritating him; previously he hadn't bothered to think about it, he had merely grasped and strings and decided he was out of breath. His chest stung, how did he even assosciate stinging to being without breath as one in the same? You need to think more, controll your actions, make sure you don't do anything... stupid... Satoko's eyes widened as he finally realized what he had done, he had just left his teammates to die. There was no way they could fight off that monster on their one, but they should be bale to hold themselves up untill he gets back. Then something forgotten in his rush of fear caused adrenaline came back to Takeshi; Hikari had been taken down while chasing after him, paralyzed by the Hollow.

"This... this is all my fault isn't it?" Takeshi didn't want to believe it, he wanted to believe it all would have happened even if he hadn't have been there, but he knew otherwise. Something inside him told Takeshi that if he wasn't here, the Hollow wouldn't be either. He strongly felt that the Hollow was there because he was, and he knew it had gotten Hikari becuase he had ran away, and he knew Kasahara stood alone because of him. It's going to kill them... It's going to kill Hikari and Kasahara, and it's my fault. But right now... Right now that dosn't matter, I have to get back, I have to fight, even if this monster kills me again, at least I died trying this time, and nothing is going to stop me form trying.

Spinning on his heel, Takeshi took off running back towards Kasahara, Hikari, and revenge. All of his feelings of fear had been diminished, they were still there, they just didn't matter anymore. He had died running away, afraid, he hadn't even tried to fight back. He had just looked at his killer in awe, fear plain in his eyes, and then died a coward. Satoko placed a hand on his scar, remembering the pain, and hoping to deal it back to the monster. Sigil would pay, and no-one would die at the Hollow's claws again.

"I promise."

((Post is raw and unchecked for grammatical mistakes. Will edit later... maybe.))

...Patterpatterpatter. Patterpatterpatterpatterpatter...

SWOOSH!

Ryouichi leaped from tree to tree, jumping and landing with the ease that comes with long practice.

...Patterpatter. Patterpatterpatter. BOOM! Patterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatter...

Ryouichi cursed the heavens, in particular the rumbling thunderclouds that hung above the jungle's canopy, dark, ominous, and worst of all, overflowing with rain. The rain made the tree branches slick, and it was trickier than normal to gain any sort of traction for his leaps. Eventually he found a way to land so that it wasn't so difficult to maintain his footing, and scanned the lower half of the forest that spread out below him.

Ximenez was wielding his zanpakutou much like a machete, using it to cut down any offending branches or vines that happened to be in his way, and ruthlessly tearing a path through the jungle. Ryouichi figured that he and Ximenez were progressing through the forest at about the same pace. Despite the fact that he was being slowed slightly by the outgrowth obstructing his passage, Ximenez was very fast and efficient about it. Naomi, on the other hand, was the slowest moving of the trio. It seemed like she had been trying to take Ximenez's approach, but it was taking her much longer to slice through the undergrowth than Ximenez. As a result, she was trailing a little behind the other two.

As he finished his survey of the ground, Ryouichi faced once again towards the place where he knew Satoko, Maka, and Hikari's team was, the place that his own team was heading towards in almost a direct line. He cursed again as he realized that Satoko was fleeing, and as he felt Hikari's reiatsu fade slightly. From his vantage point, and in combination with his superb ability for sensing reiatsu, he could tell that Maka was repeatedly hacking away at the hollow. Unfortunately, her attacks seemed to have no effect, as there wasn't even the slightest drop in the hollow's reiatsu. He imagined what her team must feel like now, with one of its members having run away, another grievously wounded, and the remaining not even able to put a scratch on the monster that was attacking them. He could see that both the other teams and his own group were closing in on their location, but there was a good chance that they might not reach them in time.

They're not ready, Ryouichi thought, suddenly feeling very old, They're all still children, with their hearts full of fear and helplessness, not at all ready to face the harsh realities of the battlefield, not ready to experience the loss of a teammate. It was true. In fact, so far it seemed like he and Ximenez were the only ones in the entire class who were prepared for the tragic and unwelcome horrors that were sometimes seen while battling with hollows. And what can you do? said a little voice in the back of his head, a voice that Ryouichi tried to suppress at every possible moment, You're just as powerless as they are. The voice was right, Ryouichi realized. He still wasn't strong enough yet. There was nothing he could do either.

Suddenly feeling very drained, it was all Ryouichi could do to clamp down on his dark thoughts and concentrate on traversing from tree to tree. But as the trio continued to make a trail through the jungle, there was one thought that seemed to loop endlessly in Ryouichi's head.

Too soon. It was all too soon.

BOOM! Patterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatterpatter...

PostSubject: Re: Game 2 - Chapter 2   Game 2 - Chapter 2 - Page 3 Icon_minitimeWed 12 Nov 2008, 6:55 pm

Why is Satoko moving away from the hollow...?

Igarashi wondered that as soon as he felt Satoko's Reiatsu get separated from the others, it made no sense for him, was Satoko running away? Igarashi never thought of Satoko as one that would run away from battle... then again, he really did not know much about him... in fact, he didn't know much about anyone in his class. And it wasn't just because he had just met them two weeks ago... He simply had not talked a lot with any of them, even Satoko and Kasahara, who he felt a little more connection with. Satoko wasn't much of a talker, and Kasahara had saved him from trouble more than talking to him so far.

His mind began to wander, even though he was running at full speed while dodging trees and vines, he was now sort of doing it automatically, without his mind being focused on keeping his body from slamming headfirst into a tree. Why was he so concerned then? he had just ran that though in his mind, he really had no reason to care about anyone there... as he usually didn't, and yet, there he was, running his ass of to try and save a bunch of people he had only met two weeks ago. It didn't make sense, he had never cared before... so why now?

Igarashi crouched slightly to avoid an incoming low branch, but his eyes were not not even looking at the branch, he had done that as if it had been a mere reflex, his mind now fully submerged into what had just happened. And now that he thought back, moments ago, he had panicked, felt guilt and worse for the death of one of those people, in fact, that sensation still pang in his heart. But why??? Rikiki was one of the people in his class that he talked to even less, he was pretty sure she didn't even meant as much to him as Satoko or others are now... so why did he felt that way? his hearth and feelings had experienced something that his brain couldn't recall. Indeed, Rikiki's death somehow felt familiar, and yet... he did not recall having been in front of someone getting killed...

"Ngh!"

Igarashi grunted as a branch that got too close made a small cut to his left arm. It was barely more than a scratch, but it was enough to make him snap out of his thoughts for now... even if he couldn't understand why was he feeling like that, now was not the time to think about it. Looking ahead, he saw that Ashibue had gotten ahead even more now. While his reflexes were good, it was obvious that he need to keep paying attention. Focusing once more, he once again pinpointed the location of Kasahara and that hollow, he also noticed that for some reason, Satoko's reiatsu was now moving back to their location.

Wait a sec... why am I seeing this all so clearly?

Yet another question popped up in his mind, according to what he learned in class, sensing other's presence required having a good reiatsu... and as far as he knew, he had never had any kind of training for it, he had just recently learned to use one kidou spell, and he had not even used it so far, so why was he sensing all that so clearly right now? specially considering that they were still a ways to go since they had ran for quite a bit and they were not even near yet...

"Gah!"

Now his shoulder bumping into a passing tree, Igarashi scolded himself, this was really not the time to be wondering about that stuff, it was working for him, so why question it? He now just had to put it into good use so he could get to them before it was too late...

"I hate rain" she mumbeled to herself. Just then Naomi seen a large gap ahead. She was going to fast to stop. She had to think quick. Run... run... run...

This brought back a lot of memories... he'd made it through worse than this, somehow. It had been a miracle that he'd survived his last fight in Rukongai... that had been a lot like this, actually, except that the dense rainforest was very much different from the battlefield where he'd almost died, surrounded by his recently butchered comrades... those who he'd been too slow, too powerless to help... and then... then...

Then there was the old man.

"...where am I?", the black-haired boy asked, trying slowly to sit upright. He clutched at this shoulder in pain.

"Hah. Still alive, boy, and that's a miracle too. Why, not many people go up against a Shinigami officer and live."

There was a moment of silence.

"What happened to the others?"

The old man's expression gave his words an even more leaden tone than his voice did. "All gone. So many, yet all gone..."

Junshirou lay back in bed. He could barely remember anything about the fight... all he could remember was the blood, and the face of the Shinigami who had slain so many of his friends. What had happened? He'd arrived with Junko and Kazuya, and... and then he'd evaded the ambush somehow... and... and he'd narrowly missed Junshirou's heart with his blade, and he fell unconscious, his head turned sideways, staring into the glazed eyes of Kazuya's severed head...

That was something he thought he'd never forget, but it had been so long ago, and after all, he'd seen so many deaths... it had taught him that anyone could die. He was lucky that he himself hadn't, but death would come sooner or later. And what about the here and now? Rikiki was dead, and Hikari would die any second unless Kasahara managed to do something fast. Nobody else would make it in time. There was no option... he had to do everything he could, or more would die. All he could hope was that his time training hadn't been for nothing.

He continued running as fast as he could to Kasahara's group.

Kanue darted through the woods, following close behind Ximenez, when suddenly, the red-capped Cardinal hopped into the treetops.

And then there was no ground below Kanue's feet.

Reflexively, Kanue leapt into the air, following Ximenez into the thick canopy of the trees growing from the ravine several meters below. The branches were slippery from the rain and Kanue glanced back. "Look out, Naomi, there's--"

But all Kanue saw was a surprised look on Naomi's face for a moment before she disappeared into the leaves below. There was a yelp, and the sound of some branches cracking, and then nothing. "Naomi!" Kanue stopped.

"Don't worry about her," Ximenez said. "I know what you're thinking, but there's no time to waste."

Naomi has left Kanue's group.

=====================================

Chiken was having a hard time keeping his mind on the upcoming battle, even in the midst of this crisis. He was, instead, wondering if he could cast a kidou spell while running at full speed. He glanced down at his hands, then up at Anshou's back, and made a few gestures.

"Way of Binding Three! Refresh!"

The kidou spell surprised Anshou a little, slowing him down just enough to allow Tenkawa to take the lead, but it seemed to have worked.

Chiken used REFRESH on Anshou
Anshou healed 1 WOUND

======================================

Maka could feel a pulse in her zanpakutou, almost like a heartbeat. Try again, it said to her. She hesitated. Try again! it commanded. In her terror, she blindly flew at the Hollow, swinging her sword.

She knew it was a bad move as soon as she was off the ground. Her stroke was uneven and off balance, and as her sword bounced off the Hollow's thick skin, it left her completely undefended. Viciously, the Hollow raked its scythelike claw through Maka's midsection, sending her through the air in a shower of blood and smashing her head directly into a tall tree. Maka tumbled down through the branches and collided hard with the ground, bleeding severely, but still alive. Anyone less tough would have been completely torn to pieces by that fierce attack.

Maka dealt 0 WOUNDS to Sigil

Sigil achieved a CRITICAL HIT
Sigil dealt 8 WOUNDS to Maka

Hikari is IMMOBILIZED (4 turns)

In the interest of not having this battle take an entire month, I'll start writing the next update once Satoko and Maka have posted their actions and their dice rolls. So if you're not Satoko or Maka and you want to do something this turn, hurry up and say so. :cyclops:

Chiken smiled, finding that the spell worked perfectly at high speeds. He recalled back to Advanced Tactics II class of Hisagi-Sensei speaking:
'Remember, a wound is a weakness. Every wound you have weakens you in your ability not only to attack, but to defend.'
Chiken smiled even wider with calling up that memory so easily from his nightly practice with Myounahanashi. Of course, he wasn't paying attention to where he was going while he was remembering that, and he stumbled a little with the high speeds they were going.

Regaining his balance, Chiken looked ahead at Anshou, and noticed that he was still bleeding a little. Not wanting to catch him by surprise again, Chiken called out to him,
"I'm going to do it again, Anshou." He then redid the gestures and called out again, "Way of Binding Three! Refresh!"

It all happened so fast. She couldn't even account for most of what had happened. The brunette remembered going after the hollow again but after that, she could only remember being thrown onto the ground like an unwanted rag doll.

"...Itai-tai-tai." She groans in strain as she tries to push herself up from the ground. It hurted. Everything hurted. Kasahara sat up on her knees, not feeling prepared enough to get up entirely. Shakingly, she curled inward to survey the damage done to hurt through a wincing gaze.

Blood. All she could see was a crimson view. Her clothes were stained in her blood and the ground around her were broken branches and fallen leaves that shared the same color. She attempted to look up to see the branches that remained on the tree, but her head throbbed in protest. When Kasahara reached back and gingerly touched the back of her head, she puller her hand back to find even more blood. Her limbs ached at the abuse but they were still functioning atleast. She evaluated her situation and found that she wasn't dead yet; the pain she felt alerted her of that.

Her weapon, Kyouryuketsu, throbbed once again to caution her not to just sit around while the hollow was still at large. "Heki heki." Kasahara said with a wavering voice. She wanted to be alright, but her instincts told her otherwise. Upon getting onto her feet again, she readies herself for another attack. She couldn't do this much longer; she knew she couldn't. But much like a desperate wild animal caught in a trap, she would ferociously defend herself until rendered unable.

Satoko skidded to a halt, hidden from the Hollow’s view in his current position. Satoko had been running as fast as he could, and made it back only in time to watch with horror as Kasahara attacked the Hollow. Takeshi stood by, watching with horror as Kasahara attacked something he knew she wouldn’t hurt, and he was right. Agonized, Takeshi watched as her sword did no damage to the Hollow, merely bouncing of its flesh and leaving her open, open for the Hollow’s claws to cut her apart.

“No…” Satoko’s eyes widened as he watched Kasahara soar through the air in a spray of blood after the Hollow had torn open her torso. “It’s just like…” Takeshi stopped midsentence; memories flooding back to him involuntarily, memories of the exact same thing happening to him, killing him. It was worse when Kasahara’s head hit the tree, so similar to when his had cracked open on pavement. Then she tumbled down the branches, slamming into the ground, and he felt like it was his entire fault.

Once assured that Kasahara was alive an attempting to defend herself from further harm, Takeshi burst into sight, leaping in-between Kasahara and the Hollow. Satoko placed his hand on his Zanpakutou, bracing himself, not sure how this would turn out. He was about to attempt to attack something more then 3 times his size, with six claws, each the size of his blade or larger, something that had killed him once already. This was something that had incapacitated his teammates; this was something he was afraid of. This was Sigil.

“Kasahara, I’m… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have run away just because I was afraid, I shouldn’t have let him hurt you. I shouldn’t have done a lot of things, but if I keep apologizing he’ll cut me down while I’m running my mouth off, so I guess I really only have one thing I need to tell you now; and I honestly don’t know why I need to tell you, but I feel like I do.” Satoko sighed, this was it, and it was all ending now, his fear of the Hollow, his self pity, his cowardice, and the running. He would never run from a fight again as long as he could help it.

Drawing Ryuunosuke, Satoko glared at the Hollow, readying himself for what was coming next. He didn’t look at Kasahara as he spoke, because he knew he couldn’t look away from the Hollow’s eyes even if he tried. “Kasahara, I’m afraid”, with this Takeshi dashed at the Hollow, nothing mattered now except this attack, nothing but its success. Although his speed wasn’t anything astonishing, his maneuvering was; he dashed left and right, ducked and jumped, made it difficult for the Hollow track his movements and anticipate what sort of attack he would launch.

Takeshi leapt, with fear fresh in his mind, memories of his death burnt into his eyes, the stench of blood in the air, all of this things he took in as attacked the Hollow. Attacked Sigil. Attacked. Attack.

Maka struggled to her feet, dripping blood from her body, shakily aiming her sword at the monster towering over her. It opened its mouth and began drawing energy again for another beam attack. Maka gasped and attempted to jump out of the way.

KYAAAAAAHHHHHHHNN....!!!

Even with her stellar defensive ability, the Hollow's energy blast cut right through her, leaving her shaking and wounded on the ground next to Hikari. Terrified, Maka looked up at the beast, it's claws at the ready, about to finish her off.

SHUNK!

The Hollow let out a fierce roar as Satoko leapt in from its blindside and drove his Zanpakutou into its shoulder. Blood sprayed from the wound.

While dashing through the woods, Ashibue suddenly felt the monster let out another blast of energy.

Onee-chan...

Kasahara was stunned in realization that Takeshi had returned to battle for Hikari and her. Her pain was forgotten momentarily in a daze as he spoke to her and nearly made her forget that she was still in battle until she was forced onto the ground again.

There was a blinding light that penetrated her defenses and flung her onto the ground faced down. Her weapon left her hands and laid uselessly a foot or two from where she was thrown. A raspy cough signaled Takeshi and Hikari that she was still alive even though she took more damage in her already beaten condition. Karahara couldn't feel her limbs through the immense pain but, again, it told her that she was alive. It felt like something was holding her down, though; her limbs would not respond to her at all. As much as she wanted to stand up and fight at Takeshi's side, she couldn't. She also wanted to scold the blond boy for leaving them in battle in the first place. The tomboy couldn't put the betrayal that she felt into words but her fists would surely show how angry she felt about it.

She lifted her head with great determination even though she could not do the same with the rest of her body. Another cough racked her body and with it came specks of blood. Her eyes watered from the pain but she couldn't focus on her own situation anymore; she watched Takeshi shallowly slice into the Hollow and was lost in thought. Although she was hurt by his sudden departure, Kasahara was extremely happy that he had returned for her. Was his reason that she was simply a classmate in danger and his guilt was weighing heavily on his conscience? She hoped that it was more than that. His words held a deeper meaning for her: 'I shouldn't have let them hurt you' 'I need to tell you ... Don't know why ... Feel like I do.' Was this because he considered her as an important friend? Is this friendship something to be cherished in such a way? Even in her condition, she could not help but feel giddy.

Kasahara smiled weakly and spoke with difficulty at first. "Takeshi, I'm ... "

She couldn't formuate the right words nor could she put up a strong facade so she paused and spoke more clearly with a sincere tone. "You came back. Thank you. I needed you here with me."

She turned her head and choked another cough, staining her sleeve with bits of blood, and muffled out her words. "You're afraid.. but be strong, like I know you are." The brunette thought back to the beginning of the school year, back when he had asked her how to repair one's pride. "Push on and be stronger... If you can't do it, I'll be stronger for the both of us."

Daisuke looked back at Zetsumei. The boy was hobbling and obviously hurting bad. He shut his eyes and shook his head. "I agree. Takeshi felt his feet touch the ground, that was relaxing. The last four seconds had been filled with so much anxiety, stress, and overall fear, that Satoko had felt he was going to die just from attacking Sigil. When his blade had dug into the Hollow's flesh, he had been astonished. Takeshi had been so afraid and so without confidence when attacking that he had expected to bounce off the Hollow like Kasahara had done, and then end up as cut up as her. The difference being was that Satoko didn't think he could take that sort of beating, he couldn't have got up after that. He knew from experience.

Now on the ground, Takeshi could feel something nearby, two things, but he didn't have time to take notice of them, Kasahara had been paralyzed just like Hikari, but she was trying to talk, and being an anime fan-character-thing-a-ma-jig, Takeshi was able to listen to her talk without being attacked by Sigil like one would be in a real battle. Then again, one doesn't have real battles with giant clawed monsters that eat souls. Satoko looked over his shoulder at Kasahara, grimacing at the trouble she was having speaking.
"You came back. Thank you. I needed you here with me."
Satoko nodded, he still felt guilty for leaving, but the absence of anger over it was relaxing, although not enough for him to just sit down to a cup of tea; there was still a giant killer monster he was fighting, and it he would fight.

"You're afraid.. but be strong, like I know you are."
A smile crept onto Takeshi's face, he wasn't strong enough, he always believed that, but someone else believed otherwise, and who was he to doubt them?

"Push on and be stronger... If you can't do it, I'll be stronger for the both of us."
"I can do it, I'll be strong enough this time around", Takeshi spoke without expression, no affection or fear anymore, his mind had been cleared of such hindrances; he knew what he needed to do, and he fully intended to do it. "And given your current condition, I think I'm the one who needs to be strong right now. Even if you could move, you're not exactly in fighting condition miss cut-open. Huh, maybe we'll have matching scars." Done with all this bantering, Takeshi turned his head back to face the Hollow, who had patiently waited for them to finish their conversation, just like he had Satoko's blabbering last time. Honestly he's quite polite for a soul eating freak that cuts people in half.

Takeshi's mind raced, taking in everything it could and putting it to use in the most productive way it could come up with. If I injured the Hollow when I was so off focus I should be able to do it again this turn, but I have to worry about counterattack, if I take a hit like Kasahara I'm done for. However if I try to defend from oncoming attacks it will probably just paralyze me with the ray of light. I can't die and leave Kasahara and Hikari unguarded though, so rushing in is a poor idea, wait. Takeshi then noticed for the first time how close to him the other Shinigami Cadets felt, fully understanding now that even if he died in this attack, he wouldn't be leaving his teammates for dead, just helping his classmates when they arrived. Alright then, bring it, claw boy.

"Hey, Kasahara, in case this thing kills me... Goodbye." Satoko dashed at the Hollow, moving as quickly as he could, weaving in and out of an imaginary pattern, until finally launching an attack on Sigil.

Igarashi watched in amazement as Ashibue soared trough the air, he knew that they now were very close to where all the commotion was, but still, stunts like that made him even more respectful of the small silent girl. He then realized that he had stopped running and was now falling behind even more. Clenching his teeth, Igarashi sped forward again, sure that it was a matter of seconds before he managed to reach that Giant monster, Kasahara and... Satoko?

As he gained even more speed while avoiding more trees, Igarashi was slightly surprised to feel Satoko's presence there once again, last time he had checked, he was moving away from the hollow... it didn't make sense, but seeing that Ashibue's sister and Kashara's reiatsu was now weaker, it meant they were barely holding up... Indeed, moments later he managed to glance at Satoko fighting that hollow head on. Igarashi was astonished to see the size of that one... the Centipede he had fought before was big, but this one was even more intimidating, yet Satoko seemed to be holding his own so far. Igarashi wasn't so sure if he could keep up though, the hollow barely looked hurt.

Igarashi unsheathed his Zanpakutou once again, readying to strike as he rushed past the last trees getting in the way. Satoko was now launching an attack the Hollow. "NOW" He shouted to himself as he charged straight to the hollow as fast as he could so his attack could connect almost as the same time as Satoko's. that way at least one of the attacks would connect, hopefully hurting the hollow more and preventing him to kill another shinigami, and more importantly, a friend.

"Hey, Kasahara, in case this thing kills me... Goodbye."

Satoko dashed at the Hollow, moving as quickly as he could, weaving in and out of an imaginary pattern, until finally launching an attack on the Hollow.

Without the element of surprise, though, Satoko couldn't manage more than a glancing blow against the fearsome beast, even using all of his strength. The massive beast roared loudly, then grabbed the blade Satoko's zanpakutou and flung it away, nearly taking Satoko's arm with it. The boy tried to roll away, but the monster grabbed him with its other hand and picked him up off the ground. The stench of the Hollow's breath brought back too many memories that Satoko had spent ages trying to forget.

It's happening again... Just like before...

Without any more hesitation, the Hollow lifted its claw, preparing to tear Satoko's heart out. It was like deja vu. Everything was happening exactly as it did that day, just as if someone had recorded Satoko's death and was playing it out over again. Satoko stopped himself from trembling and took a deep breath. First the Hollow would rake its claw down Satoko's midsection, then it would take a gouge out of his shoulder before flinging him to the ground and crushing what was left of him underfoot. It was something that Satoko would never forget, that pain. He braced himself for it.

So this is it... I'm going to die. Again.

The wind from the Hollow's claw as it swiped toward him...

And then a shadow out of the corner of Satoko's eye.

Ashibue's mind raced even faster than her feet. She could see what she was flying towards - the fearsome looking creature that resembled a scarecrow with scythes for fingers. She could see the Kasahara girl face down on the ground, and the trail of blood staining the clearing where the Hollow had flung her around. And lying next to Kasahara...

...Onee-chan.

The Hollow didn't seem to have noticed her as she flew toward it, her black hair streaming behind her. Timing it perfectly, Ashibue brought her hands together, chanting silently under her breath before releasing her Kidou spell directly in the Hollow's mask at point blank range.

Way of Destruction 1, Thrust!

A gust of reiatsu rushed from Ashibue's outstretched hands, sending the startled Hollow back a step or two. Satoko slipped from its grip, falling to the ground within arms reach of his sword. The younger Kijou sister landed on one knee in front of him, then stood up, shielding him from the monster's glare like some sort of shadowy guardian. She glanced back over her shoulder and gave the boy a soft smile.

Don't worry.

Ashibue closed her eyes.

Onee-chan... and everyone.

Ashibue reached for the handle of her zanpakutou and drew it, pointing the tip resolutely at the Hollow.

I won't let this monster hurt anyone!

"Die!!"

Another shadow flew from the woods, this one a touch of red. With his zanpakutou held high, Igarashi brought the blade down hard on the Hollow's arm, half severing its forearm and sending a spray of blood across the clearing. The beast roared out in pain as Igarashi landed in front of the fallen Maka and Hikari. "Come on," he said to Satoko. "This thing's not dead yet."

"Come on," he said to Satoko. "This thing's not dead yet."

As Igarashi finished saying this, he also cursed inwardly. That last attack he had made took the hollow completely by surprise, and he had slashed him with a lot of his strength too... and yet the beast still looked far from being out, his roars sounded as if they were of annoyance than actual agony. This didn't mean he planned to let up, however, this at least showed that the hollow could be hurt, it was a matter of not letting up, and eventually he was sure it had to fall, but he wasn't so sure he, Ashibue and Satoko were strong enough to bring it down.

"Kasahara..." Igarashi said to the tomboy behind her without taking his eyes away from the Giant Hollow. "It looks that you and Hikari are heavily hurt... however, as soon as you can move, get away from here... We can handle this." He didn't believe what he said completely, however, he could tell and sense that those two were far from being combat able, and even if they could get up later, they would be more of a hindrance than an assistance to this fight. He also glanced briefly at Ashibue too, once again nodding to acknowledge her help, and perhaps to ask for more assistance... Her kidou so far had been very useful for him, yet he was unable to use it to his advantage better. Igarashi wasn't used to fight in teams. It was always him against many others, not the other way around... but it was obvious he need to cooperate here if he wanted to defeat the foe at hand.

Readying Sougenkotsu, Igarashi shouted at Satoko while circling around the Hollow "Satoko! we need to attack him at the same time! he can't defend from the both of us if we strike from different sides!" He wasn't sure if the blond boy was even ready to attack again, but he had to get ready, That hollow would soon recover from that wound and get ready to act again.

She was helpless to do anything for her three classmates fighting the hollow. All the tomboy could do was watch them combat against it with difficulty. Takeshi, with seemingly more confidence than before, mentally readied himself to attack the hollow but spoke in Kasahara's direction before doing so. 'Hey, Kasahara, in case this thing kills me... Goodbye.' She didn't understand; the brunette was so confident that the blond boy would be able to survive and defeat their opponent but Takeshi still felt like he was overpowered by it? Furthermore, he was more than ready to accept a death by this creature? She didn't say respond to his word for now but this was to be remembered later.

It turned out they all three of her classmates were unharmed due to a Kidou spell casted by the darker of the two Kijou sisters. She was sure that without her, someone else would've been severely injured. Kasahara watched as the others readied themself to attack again until Sakimoto spoke in her direction...

"...Run?" Kasahara stared in bewilderment at Sakimoto's backside. She wasn't sure if she heard the redheaded boy correctedly. For a moment she felt insulted and displayed a furious look upon her face with her eyebrows arching angrily at the boy. "You want me to run?"

It was true that she was in no condition to fight; there was blood pooling underneath her from her open cuts and her head ached tremendously from being thrown into a tree. Regardless of how she felt or how badly injured she was, Kasahara would be stubborn and stand her ground. Her eyes darted from Sakimoto to Takeshi, trying to determine whether or not he felt the same way about her situation. Did he want her to leave too? No. It didn't matter what he thought. Her pride was telling her that running would only show everyone else that she was weak. Kasahara wouldn't have it. "I'm not going to run!"

She forced herself to sit up, feeling a little stronger than before though still weakened. Her palms dug into the ground as she slid up to lean against the tree so she could sit without exhausting anymore energy she could muster. In determination to show that she could pull her own weight and be more than a hindrance, she reached over to grab her Zanpakutou and grips it hard. With a sneer decorating her dirt and blood smeared face, she grumbled loudly followed by another blood filled cough. "I'm fighting and you can't convince me otherwise."

Igarashi glared at Kasahara as he tried to focus his upcoming attack on the hollow. Unable to ignore her last remark. "Don't be stupid." He responded while shifting his eyes between the Hollow and Kasahara. "You can barely grip your blade... how good will that be for us? You will only get yourself killed, accomplishing nothing." His words sounded harsh. But that was because he didn't want to admit that he was worried about her and Satoko, as long as she was there, Satoko might get more distracted, and even right now, Kasahara was in danger of getting murdered by that hollow, he knew this fact all too well.

"You want to help us? Take Hikari with you and get away. Get better so you can fight another time." Igarashi added, hoping that this might help that stubborn brunette to understand. It didn't look like he had any more time to act though, he had to attack before the Hollow made his move.

The second refresh had hit with success, but Chiken saw no proof of that. Knowing that it couldn't miss, Chiken had started to wonder if it hit at all, and that became Chiken just plain wondering about kidou in general. It quickly led to him thinking so much about the spells that he had, before he knew it and without realizing it, entered his subconscious mind and near-instantly fished out the memory of one of his talks with Myounahanashi from his lake of memories.

"Alright Myounahanashi, I got today's memories sorted."
"So soon? Good, you're getting much better at it."
Chiken was standing on the shore of the lake and smiled at Myounahanashi's complement. She was fluttering lazily nearby, easily kept up with the flapping of her many wings. It was odd, Chiken could swear that, sometimes, her wings had actual words on them. Her wings would never be still long enough for him to really tell though.
"Well then, there's something new I want to show you. Follow me."
With a quick flurry of motion and the ever present stream of colorful ether following her, Myounahanashi started off, floating away into the endless plains. Smiling even harder with the mention of something new, Chiken quickly ran to catch up with her.

It wasn't long until Chiken could see that there was a sort of blur on the horizon. A surge of wonder flowed through his body and he ran even faster to get there. Still, it took a while until Chiken managed to get close enough to discern any features of it. It was a tree, albeit a small one. Oddly, there was nothing very special about it besides the fact that it was the only tree Chiken's seen in his mindscape. Myounahanashi had already arrived at the tree and was resting on one of its branches.
"Well, took you long enough, little one."
Chiken could easily tell the playful sarcasm in her voice and smiled.
"I'm sorry but not everyone here can fly."
"No," She laughed lightly, "that will come soon enough. Now then, what do you think this is?"
"Well... it's a tree."
"Obviously, but why is it important then?"
Honestly, Chiken didn't know. He knew it had to be important since it was the only tree here and because Myounahanashi was pointing it out specifically, but he didn't know why. He went closer and rubbed the tree's bark It was firm for a sapling, but it didn't seem very strong. It branched off into two separate sections a little after coming out of the ground. The leaves were also green for a sapling, looking like they could easily absorb sunlight. Then, the tree was flowering in a few places higher up but had fruit near the bottom. All in all, Chiken couldn't decide why it was important and it clearly showed on his face.
"Stumped? Well, this tree is, in a way, your physical form. You know you are a little tougher than some of your classmates but are weaker in strength than most. Your 'mind' are the leaves, there are a few yellowing ones but you mostly have a better 'mind' than most of your classmates."

Chiken was easily remembering this, how next she talked about the fruit being his kidou and the flowers were kidou he had yet to learn. He would've kept remembering this memory of Myounahanashi showing him his 'physical tree', if he hadn't run right into a tree. Surprisingly, his 'autopilot' running was doing great until that point of the tree, during which he was brought crashing back to reality. Quickly getting back up and now paying full attention, he noticed that they were getting closer to the battle and he knew that losing himself into memories would surely get himself killed. He quickly fell back into the line they had taken for traveling and tried to remain focused.

She gave Sakimoto the evil eye. "I'm not being stupid. I can still fight!"

Kasahara huffed a little, remembering that last time the redheaded boy made her this angry was when he nearly killed himself over trying to rescue a certain someone. Putting her pride aside, the tomboy was confident that she could attack the hollow again and not fall prey to the beast. With four students, the chances of killing it is better than if she'd leave the battle. "I'm not gonna get killed, you idiot. Quit thinking that way."
