The kingdom of Nolrem is a ruthless, terrible, power-hungry nation that wants total world domination. Which is why they are bringing back the old tradition of worldwide games to honor all of the Gods. Hmm... perhaps some better explaination is in order.
The kingdom of Nolrem is a ruthless, terrible, power-hungry nation that wants total world domination. But you already knew that, for I just told it to you. But what you don't know, is that is an inaccurate description. The kingdom of Nolrem is not a ruthless, terrible, power-hungry nation that wants total world domination; at least, not by choice. The folk of Nolrem hated the destruction they've wrought, The armies of Nolrem hated the innocent they've slain. The Council of Nolrem, however, loved both of those things, and forced their love onto the rest of the land of Nolrem.
The Council of Nolrem is, obviously, evil. So evil, I have to capitalize 'council' when referring to them. They usurped the former king of Nolrem and took control of the kingdom. No one could challenge them, they were too powerful for the common folk. The members of the Council had a dark power between them, one that could cause endless pain and torment, so much so that the folk would rather destroy and slay innocent people rather than be targeted by the Council's power.
Let it not be said the people hadn't tried to destroy the council, for many had stood tall against them. Most notably was the prince, who was rumored to have powers of his own. He fought back when his father was slain, and managed to kill one of the members of the Council. However, he was quickly caught and, as a show to the rest of the people, was brutally killed. Then, he was revived by the power of the Council before being killed again, and again, and again. His corpse was left impaled in the nearest town center, easy access for the Council to demonstrate their power over the people on.
In the stead of the prince's actions, they crowned a new king. Not one of their own, they just wanted a puppet crowned just to amuse themselves with. They wanted to make a joke with it, and one had the idea that the joke of the castle be crowned. That was how the former court jester was crowned to the position of king, and the Council had a great laugh.
Their laugh wouldn't last. The night of the crowning, the Council had met to decide just how they should amuse themselves with their 'king', and the next thing that is known is that the council room was engulfed in flames, instantly turned to ruins along with not a single trace of any bodies.
At first, the kingdom didn't react. They thought it was a trick so the Council could find out the most unloyal that would rise up to celebrate.
Then, after a few days, someone had noticed that the body of the prince had gone missing (out of respect, the villagers where the body was had built a wall around him as a grave). Instantly, rumors spread that the prince had risen to save them, and that he would shortly take the throne.
After a week or two, someone finally took action. Ironically, it was the king that had only been crowned as a laugh for the council. He simply asked for the rubble to be cleared from the old Council's chambers (it had been left in fear of the Council still rising), but it sparked the kingdom. When the rubble was gone, people figured the Council was really dead, and took to celebrations.
Within a matter of days, the army of Nolrem had disbanded and returned home, leaving the kingdom completely defenseless as messengers flew out to other kingdoms and nations to spread the news. At first, the other kingdoms thought it to be a trap, which gave enough time for the new kingdom of Nolrem to decide what they would do. Formal messengers went to all nearby kingdoms, explaining what the kingdom of Nolrem was doing next: They were giving back all land that had been taken under the force during the Council's rule. They were also making treaties of peace to any country that would accept it, never wanting to cause destruction again.
Miraculously, a large number of kingdoms would accept the treaty, and those that didn't would still not attack the nation of Nolrem. Lands were reclaimed and even a nation or two were reborn. However, there was one spot of land that would not be divided: a sacred section of land that had been taken over by the old Council. In the center of this land had been the holy cathedral to all the Gods of the entire world, that had been destroyed by the Council personally as another show of power. It was ordered that the holy cathedral be rebuilt, and quickly a whole city grew around it.
When the cathedral had finished, an invitation went out to even the nations that had not accepted a treaty of peace with the kingdom of Nolrem.
The kingdom of Nolrem had been a ruthless, terrible, power-hungry nation that wanted total world domination. Which is why they are bringing back the old tradition of worldwide games to honor all of the Gods.
It was an attempt at atonement, one that was surprisingly thought up by the now accepted king of Nolrem: the former court jester, Chiken Kazenosei.
