"Hey," said Ichigo out loud to the general crowd. "We're here to see Inoue."

Ishida, standing behind him, buried his face in his palm. Chad looked slightly nervous.

"Kurosaki-kun!" Orihime jumped from her seat, ran up, and threw her arms around Ichigo. "I was afraid you weren't going to be able to come!"

"AHEM!" Chojiro said loudly, highly offended by this breach of protocol - in the middle of his speech! "Would... anyone arriving late... please take your seats. Immediately!." The headmaster's face was bright red; he was so angry he could barely find the words that would let him remain polite in front of all these nobles. He took a deep breath and calmed down as the three intru-- no, newcomers-- found room to sit in the back row and that redheaded student - the General's student - went back to her seat.

"And so," he restarted his sentence, "as I've said many times before, it's of utmost importance that all of us in this room right now, no matter what walk of life from which we come... We must all remember that we are all citizens of Soul Society.

"Thank you."

Another round of polite applause broke out as Chojiro left the podium and headed for the tournament hall. The uneasy feeling in his stomach hadn't abated in the least.

"Would the third-year Academy students please rise?" said Inada.

The entire front row stood up. Twenty-two people.

"Please make your way with Lieutenant Sasakibe to Kyouraku Hall. The tournament will soon begin."

"Good evening, Lieutenant."

Kazuhara Kijou had, as usual, missed the Headmaster's speech completely and was now standing, arms crossed, at the entrance to Kyouraku Hall, having traded in his Egyptian pharaoh outfit for his 1st Division officer's uniform. Already there were people milling about, waiting for the action to start.

Chojiro regarded Kazuhara with a curt nod. "Good evening, Fourth-Seat Kijou."

Kazuhara noticeably bristled. "It's... Third-Seat Kijou now."

"Ah, yes, I'd forgotten you'd been promoted. Well, if you'll excuse me...," Chojiro attempted to breeze by.

"You're the one who signed my promotion paperwork, Lieutenant. Three days ago." Kazuhara bowed deeply, a charming smile on his face. "I do hope your memory isn't slipping in your old age. Like our dear General."

Chojiro stopped. Kazuhara followed him into the building.

"But I digress," Kazuhara continued. "If you don't mind, Lieutenant, there's something I'd like to discuss with you."

"What is it, Kijou?" Chojiro turned and stared over his moustache at his subordinate.

"Oh," Kazuhara put up his hands. "Not now. I do realize you're quite busy getting the tournament started. I'll come and get you... let's say, sometime during the third round? Then we'll be assured privacy."

Chojiro's eyes narrowed. "Very well." He turned and walked away.

"And a good day to you as well, Lieutenant," Kazuhara turned left and went in the opposite direction, toward the Nobles' Boxes. "A very good day to you," he smiled quietly.

Kyouraku Hall, a building adjacent to the Academy, was built in the early 1400s for this specific purpose. The enormous arena was nearly a kilometer in diameter, with a seating capacity of over 100,000, counting the Nobles' Boxes in the 20th through 25th rows. In the center of the arena was the ring - twenty square metres of flat, hewn granite rising half a metre from the surrounding dirt. Competitors would need to remain in the ring in order to win.

It didn't take more than half an hour for the arena to fill to capacity. Yumichika's calligraphic tournament bracket had been shrunk and printed, and ushers at the entrances handed one copy to each spectator. And one copy to each competitor.

Game 3 - Chapter 3 - Page 6 Tourneysub

"Students from 3-B," Tetsu said to the waiting group of students. "Please line up in the middle of the ring, single file."

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen," Tetsu took his place in the center of the ring, "to the annual Homecoming Tournament!"

The crowd cheered loudly as 3-B's participants lined up in the center of the ring.

"Let's get things started with our preliminary round!" Tetsu continued. "The preliminary round pays homage to the Battle of Southgate, during the Second Civil War, when a small band of 3rd and 11th Division fighters broke through the rebel Shinigami's defenses at the south end of Seireitei. Representing the rebels are these seven brave fighters from Class 3-B!"

Ikurou turned his head and counted. In the line were:

Byouko Kuroda

Matsuura Ryou

Sarah Yadoumaru

Rumiko Adachi

Sachi Oyashio

Akara Daichi

Kazu Arikosu

and himself.

There were clearly eight 3-B members lined up in the middle of the ring. Ikurou sighed. He'd been overlooked again. It wasn't a big surprise. He'd been there the entire year and no one had noticed him.

"Representing the loyalists," Tetsu went on, "Will be the top students from Advanced Class 3-A!" There was another, much louder, round of applause as the arena's spotlights highlighted the side of the ring where the 16 members of class 3-A waited. Half of them would get to fight in the preliminary round. "When I call your name," said Tetsu to the sixteen of them. "Please stand in front of your rebel competitor of choice."

He pulled a paper out of his robe. "And we'll start with the current top student in Class 3-A!" Tetsu looked down at the sheet and called out the first name:

"Igarashi Sakimoto!"

The spotlight narrowed, shining right in Igarashi's face.

There had not been much time left before the ceremony started in the auditorium when Igarashi entered. His last dancing and protocol lesson had happened after all, but it took him longer than what he expected since he was somewhat forced to make his teacher come back to his senses after making such a fuss about a lost record. All in all though, he didn't regret it, he needed that, and he wasn't that much in a hurry to be here anyway...

He spend most of the time during the ceremony thinking, keeping to himself and pretty much ignoring anyone else. His thoughts being focused mostly on the first round of the tournament, what would happen in a relatively short time is what he dreaded the most, and what happened last time only made it worse for him. The only thing that made him pay attention to what was around him was when suddenly three unknown persons burst into the auditory, and made a fuss about seeing Orihime.... They all looked... odd, then again, Orihime herself was rather peculiar. he wondered for a second who those people would possibly be.

Then, it's was their time to walk into the Kyoraku hall. Igarashi's hearth started to pump. But it wasn't for the same kind of anticipation he would usually have before a fight, for the first time since he could remember, he would be getting into a fight he much rather avoid. His expression only grew more bitter as he got handed a copy of the tournament bracket, he didn't need to see that again. Hurriedly, he wrapped the piece of paper with his hand and threw it away quickly, as if it was infected or something.

And before he knew it, they were already formed into a line. Igarashi closed his eyes, he wanted all this to stop, he didn't want to fight, he didn't want to fight her, he didn't want to-

Quote :
"....ivision fighters broke through the rebel Shinigami's defenses at the south end of Seireitei. Representing the rebels are these seven brave fighters from Class 3-B!"

Huh??? ... Oh... gah, right! Facepalming mentally, Igarashi now remembered that they were supposed the 3-B students before. He glanced at them briefly as the guy with glasses kept talking, he wondered for a moment if he would get to fight anyone of them before the actual tournament... that could actually help distract him a little, specially if he could fight... him. At that moment, Igarashi found who he was looking for, the silver haired boy that had made him look like a fool in the past. Igarashi stifled a grin, he wondered if he would get to pick him, he wondered who would get to pick fir-

"Igarashi Sakimoto!"

Igarashi squinted as the spotlight hit him at his face, interrupting what would have been otherwise an expression of surprise. Him? he was the top student in the class? was that right? Igarashi shook his head, this wasn't the time to question that. He wanted his chance to get a fight he would actually enjoy, and he had it now. Turning his face to Matsuura, he grinned as he unsheathed his zanpakutou and pointed it towards the silver haired young man.

Anshou couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was second in the whole class? The spotlight was bright and he couldn't think, but Anshou did his best to remain calm, as if this was expected.

He looked over the line of 3-B students in the middle of the ring with no idea who to pick. He didn't know much about 3-B or their students and abilitys. Anshou had been planning on fighting whoever was left when his turn came, if he even got one.

The girl with the skull on her baseball cap caught his eye. She looked pretty strong and might be a good fight. He went up and stood in front of Sachi Oyashi. "Hello," he said to her, smiling. "I hope this will be a good match."

He looked over at Igarashi, standing in front of his opponent. That meant Anshou only had one more person in his class to surpass.

He leaned over Akara - Ximenez towered over the boy by almost half a meter. "Do please show me a good time," he smiled.

Matsuura stifled a yawn, the night had been rough on him, sleep almost nonexistent and then Rumiko insisted on dragging him to...wherever they were. He squinted at all the blurred objects trying to make out what was going on and all the noises. Jeez, didn't anyone know how to be quiet in the morning? Was it even morning anymore? He rubbed his eyes to hopefully correct his vision getting quite a surprise. They were surrounded by people. People...cheering? He looked around in surprise before it dawned on him.

Oh...oh shit...

Today was the ceremony wasn't it? And here he was walking around like a zombie. He mentally facepalmed, hoping his less than stellar current appearance hadn't scared off any potential recruits. He tried to tidy his hair some noticing he was somehow already in his formal clothing, throwing a strange glance Rumiko's way. He looked up to see someone pointing a sword at him. Some man was speaking but he had been tuned out, Matsuura struggling to tune him back in to find out what was going on. Some overly tall guy in red walked by him and to Akara, a shiver running down Matsuura's spine.

So we have to fight them? Then who am I...

He looked back over at the man who had pointed at him with his sword.

AH! If it isn't Mr. Redhead. Haven't seen him since lunch the other day. This should be fun.

A devious grin spread across his face and no matter how hard he tried for the remaining procession he couldn't get rid of it.

Kazu's stoic image stands, impressive and imposing. Although many students knew him well enough to know he loved karaoke, correcting teachers on history lessons, and offering a challenge to authority and subordinates alike, so that apathy and lax attitudes would never infest the minds of those around him, anyone who said Kazu couldn't be imposing was downing some narcotic that must be illegal in several countries.

Despite his personality, the simple fact remained that he was and is an ancient demi-god who had been summoned into a lifelike nine foot tall sculpted body for the sole purpose of protecting humanity. While his power had waned over the years, due to the spell that had been cast so long ago, he had regained strength at the academy, and his spiritual pressure was regenerating and growing to become what it had once been. Kazu was learning how to strengthen his bond with the land of mortals and their spirits. His bronze body wasn't immortal, far from it, once destroyed Kazu would return to his homeland. However, he had no intention of allowing that to happen any time soon. He had once broken the backs of would be conquerers with the flick of his finger. He had impaled hollows with the tips of his brazen horns. He had crushed tyrannical kings and razed armies of death and violence to the ground. He had no scars to show for it, none physical anyway. He had done all these things before, and intended on doing them again.

There was a reason why he trained outside of the main academy grounds. Several actually. He had invited others of his class to join in, they refused. In fact, he didn't believe anyone in his class had ever seen him train. That might be enough to give him an edge. Though, if there was one weakness anyone knew, it was that Kazu always held back against people he didn't have the stomach to injure. He sighed. It was one of the reasons his wife was so adamant about his stay in the Academy. She knew he held back against her in their training sessions, and it was infuriating. Real lives and souls depended on Kazu returning to his former glory, and he needed to move beyond whatever mental block prevented him from serious training. Maybe this was happening too soon, he wasn't sure. The old gods had all but left Earth to fend for itself. He sometimes wondered if it was time for he and his wife to leave it to their new protectors.

Confusion, disappointment and trepidation passed over his face as he watched the other contestants to be chosen by Class A, and at the back of his mind, he secretly hoped that none of these kids would choose to fight him.

Takeshi grimaced as people were presented, loathing his position in front of them all, he sat uncomfortably, twitching and fidgeting, while at the same time hoping he would someone shrink out of sight, even the idea of any sets of eyes landing on him was horrifying. The attention he’d be receiving, Takeshi hadn’t bothered preparing for that. The drunkenness of last night had left him unprepared in general. Did he have his sword? Yeah, he had his sword. All thoughts of this morning’s hysteria had been pushed from him; he couldn’t even come to think about what he and Kasahara had done, or how he’d escaped, it all seemed so distant. Yes, everything else seemed this distant and he longed for the familiar. But this event was here now, and painfully unfamiliar, setting in an even larger sting of panic.

Takeshi felt a wave of relief wash over himself when the man with a traveling voice began to speak and introduce people who Takeshi didn’t really care about, he didn’t recognize the names despite having been involved with the Shinigami’s for the last 2 years. He did, however, take notice of the mention of Kurotsuchi. The name was familiar, and for a moment, he couldn’t remember why. Suddenly, old words and images formed and echoed in his mind.
Quote :
"You're an asshole! Now shut up and do something, these copycats are boring!"

Satoko suddenly felt a strong hand grasp the neck of his collar and yank him to the ground. "Shut up and watch," Ximenez said.

"Oh oh, are you going to shoot that red lazer at them?"

"Something like that," Ximenez smiled, raising one hand with a motion. A small, nearly transparent symbol appeared in front of his hand, something like a fancy silver cross outlined in gold, the whole thing surrounded by a violet circle marked with cryptic white writing. "See, it seems that... I've just figured out how to break Kurotsuchi's seal."

And he touched one long, crooked finger to the center of the circle.

Takeshi shuddered, the memory of what happened next burning in his mind as clearly as the reiatsu had burned his comrades than. He still remembered the horrifying sight of seeing his classmates obliterated, being blown away, his hands being singed when he reached for Kasahara and the sight of Ximenez in it all. Satoko remembered it clearly; he remembered the event with both rage, a pang of intimidation, and envy. He remembered most clearly Ximenez's words about Kurotsuchi, but he also remembered what happened when...
Quote :
He was alone. Satoko was alone in the clearing with this madman. Ximenez had stopped laughing, and he slowly turned to face the blond boy. Satoko noticed that his eyes were glowing a bright yellow, and his outstretched hand seemed to be... something other than human. He couldn't tell if it was covered with scales or feathers or fur or something else altogether, and his hand was a twisted claw tipped with razor sharp talons. Ximenez grinned down at the boy, and it was a horrible sight, even obscured by the shadows.

"What... the... what... are... you."

His voice was an otherworldly howl, echoing from planes unknown.

"Ego sum abyssus ipsum."

And he slashed his claw down toward Satoko's face.

Takeshi shuddered and resolved to talk to Ximenez, something he should have done a while ago. Unfortunately the red-clad monster was hard to get alone, especially when you were one of the most unassertive people in a class. But he was sure he could talk to him sometime today, sometime before he had to face him in combat; it was possible he may even get a chance to speak to Kurotsuchi and- Hey, why are all my other teammates standing? Shocked out of thought by their rising, he quickly scampered upright to join them in, forgetting why until he received a copy of the tournament bracket. And for the very first time, it set in that he would not just be fighting, he would be fighting in front of people.

Oh hell”, he inhaled sharply under his breath, the panic retaking him as he once again realized that people were looking at him right now. He is in the centre of them, Holy hell is that damned spotlight? It’s shining on us? Ahhhh! OHHELL. His internal screaming and protests obviously went unheard by all around him, and anything said went unnoticed by him as he devoted all his attention to trying to somehow appear inconspicuous. He had managed to gather that the bets students in class were going to fight and get first pick of the 3-B, and he had noticed Igarashi, Anshou, and Ximenez step forward. He both prayed he came next for the sake of his undersized ego, and hope he didn’t, as the idea of a spotlight coming down on him and causing him to be the centre of all attention was terrible.

When the spotlight focused on him and his name was said aloud, Satoko Takeshi physically winced, making his uncomfortable nature noticeable to everyone. He than proceeded to stand there awkwardly still for three seconds before he quietly shaking himself back into reality, but was still too paralyzed with shock and terror that he couldn’t convince himself to move, and found himself slowly stepping towards the only person who seemed as unnoticeable as he wanted to be, the small kid beside the big bull-man. Once there, Takeshi realized he was standing only a space from Ximenez, and gave him a quick look, he wanted to talk to him, but not right now.

For now, Takeshi would do his best to keep his heart from popping in his chest.

The spotlight was shining directly on his face, true, but despite that, Ryouichi felt completely at ease. What did he care? It was just a light. However, he did take care not to look like he was thriving in it, although that would have been his instinctive response. Instead he maintained his patent calm. First impressions were few and far between, and he didn't want to botch the first chance he had at an introduction with... thousands upon thousands of people. And besides, what reason did he really have to be exuberant? Fifth? Fifth? I was really hoping for more like second, or even perhaps first...

Shifting his focus back to reality, Ryouichi surveyed the other class. There were a few that looked like they might be worthy opponents, but really, his selection had been predetermined. As he stepped to stand across from Rumiko, his smile broadened into a genuine one. "This might be a bit improper, considering...," he started, voice low so that their conversation wasn't broadcast to any spectators, "but I hope you don't mind too much, Adachi-san."

(Ah, oh shit. No more time for procrastination, hm?)

Rikiki Brown barely made it.

Rikiki had been having a very long, contented sleep. The long, wonderful night before provided her a night a blissful slumber. And a morning. And a bit of the afternoon. In fact, when she would have woken up would have been questionable had not the rumpus of someone shutting the door after collecting some of Maka's robes. Maka herself, Rikiki supposed.

As usual, Rikiki had gotten dressed, groomed, all her normal morning activities. One of which being taking her pocketwatch. Out of habit, she popped it open.

A shriek emitted from room 311. One? One in the afternoon? The ceremony would be already over, and the torunament would be beginning!

Rikiki barrelled down the halls, wearing one sandal and carrying another, snagging a piece toast from a lost first year along the way. She could hear the speaker as she drew closer.

Tetsu Inada wrote:
"Let's get things started with our preliminary round!" Tetsu continued. "The preliminary round pays homage to the Battle of Southgate, during the Second Civil War, when a small band of 3rd and 11th Division fighters broke through the rebel Shinigami's defenses at the south end of Seireitei. Representing the rebels are these seven brave fighters from Class 3-B!"

Oh dear. Rikiki pushed on speed, hobbling towards the Auditorium. They were covering the top students now. Cheering a little woop for Iga, she attempted to put on and tie her sandal as she ran.

As Rikiki stumbled into the spot, two things happened:

1) The speaker announced, "But we're not done yet! Up next, number six... Rikiki Brown!"
2) The spotlight shined on Rikiki, toast in mouth, tying up her sandal, and looking generally like a deer in the metaphorical headlights.

Swallowing her toast, Rikiki stood up, trying very much to look as the whole thing hadn't happened and failing quite miserably. Stumbling up, she searched about for an untaken 3-B... and nearly walked into one. Looking down a bit, a very small girl with glasses looked back at her.

"Ah, hello there!" Rikiki said, wondering if this girl was actually a student.

Sachi's finger's drummed on the hilt of her sword impatiently. This was it, after all. The climax! The blood! The glory!

Though they could have done without the studio audience in her opinion, she mused trying to avoid looking in the direction of the stands. If she didn't make eye contact with them than she could continue pretending they didn't exist. She had actually given the matter some thought that morning, as she watched Sarah, waving happily with her family, and the way she saw it was thus: She could suck it up and, deal with there suffocating lameness, reconnect with them and probably even grow as a person, or put off dealing with them, and focus on kicking butt, sans angsty distractions.

For Sachi it wasn't a hard choice

Speaking of Sarah though... Sachi turned her head to see how her (sort of) friends were dealing with the wait and promptly frowned realizing that for one, she was standing beside Miss Stick-stuck-up-arse Adachi, and secondly that there was a guy with glasses that she had never seen before in her life in line with them for some reason.

On the bright side, she got to enact the part of a rebel, and kick some pretend 3rd division butt. How awesome (and somewhat ironic) could you get!

She snapped back to reality as the other class lined across from them. Psssh, advanced. They didn't look so tough. Well okay, so the 7-foot, reaper-like guy in the fancy hat at looked a little intimidating, but hopefully he wouldn't pick her. The first guy to pick was a shortish guy, with cherry red hair who stood across from Matsuura. Good, if Red's the best student maybe he'll knock Matsuura into next week, and we won't have to hear his arrogant prattling until then she thought a little put out that she hadn't been picked first. She didn't have long to wait though because a moment later, a remarkably pretty blond boy was standing in front of her.

Quote :
"Hello," he said to her, smiling. "I hope this will be a good match."

"Hullo, yourself." she grinned, slightly nervously. Her fingers began tapping her sword again. She reaaally hope she could pull this off. "May the best swordsperson win, and all that."

Seventh rank? Kasahara turned her head at the sound of her named being called. Her attention was obviously elsewhere as her classmates were called before her. She glanced nervously around before a spotlight shined down on her, lighting up her normally brown hair into a soft gold. She winced momentarily at the sudden brightness that dawned on her but then stood tall and proud. There were eyes boring holes in her and she knew she couldn't look lost and confused in front of them. More importantly, she couldn't look weak in front of the generals and important members of the soul society. The warm light and the attention slowly reminded her of why she was here. She was here to be a shinigami. Not just any shinigami. Kasahara wanted to be like 'him'. The tomboy slowly lost sight of what she wanted to be because of certain events that distracted her from her goals. Getting close to Takeshi lead her to think of him more often than her unnamed hero. It made her feel weaker emotionally and eventually physically. How can she face him now that he was ranked higher than her? Thinking about the earlier days they spent together in the school year, she asked herself how could Kasahara protect him if she was weaker? She mentally told herself the same words she told Takeshi that day. Push on and be stronger.

Feeling resolute, she looked down upon class 3-B and tried to find an opponent that was still free for the taking. There were only 2 choices. Kazu and a girl covered up by her hood. She stared intently on the larger student and pointed her unsheathed weapon at him. It wasn't to threaten him or anything, but rather just point him out. If she was going to fight, Kasahara would prefer choosing a challenge that would at least make her feel like she deserves a victory or an acceptable lose. Kazu, whom she had been acquainted with previously, looked strong and would surely pose a challenge.

"Give me an honorable battle, won'tcha?"

There was a determined look upon her face that gave off the idea that she was not going to fight for fun. Though these fights between class 3-A and 3-B were to reenact the Battle of Southgate, she felt she needed to take this fight seriously. Kasahara couldn't stand it if she lost in front of everybody. More importantly, she wouldn't be able to face herself if Takeshi saw her defeat.

( Edited. Still a shitty post. )

Chiken had wandered through the day, finding himself interested in many things. The captians and others walking to their seats was interesting, the speech was interesting (but didn't hold Chiken's attention span well), the interruption was very interesting, the walk to the arena and the arena itself was interesting, the paper he was handed was interesting (but not very good tasting, as an always hungry Chiken discovered), and the bright light... well, that was the most interesting of all. Chiken watched it go from student to student, and then they'd walk over next to the people across from them and stand there. Chiken had no clue what it meant or who the other people where, but he didn't care. Something bright and moving had his attention and nothing stronger than an earthquake could change that (or at least another very big shiny thing).

Once it fell on Chiken, he smiled at looked at himself all bright and glowing. He would've loved to be in this neat light thing forever if he didn't barely remember that he was supposed to walk to the other people now. It was kinda hard to see with the light on himself, blinding him a little. He was able to see enough, though, to see there was only one person left to stand next to. Without even knowing anything about the odd hooded figure, he took his place next to them and went back to watching the light.

In a balcony overlooking the tournament, draped with the emblem of First Division, Shigekuni Yamamoto stood up before a microphone.

He began to recite the same speech he recited every year: "In the winter of 1359, Seireitei had been overrun by rebels. This was the only time in the history of Soul Society when all the thirteen Captains had either defected or been driven out of their city. It was a dark time. Most of the Shinigami still loyal to the Gotei and loyal to the Emperor had been slain.

It was only under the guidance of two of the greatest Captains in history, 3rd Division's Kenzo Sugiura and 11th Division's Kenpachi Otama, that a glimmer of hope came to be seen. Rallying the few remaining men they had, Captain Sugiura and Captain Otama mounted a dawn assault on the Southern Gate of Seireitei. This legendary Battle of Southgate shook the rebel forces to the core and, though neither Sugiura nor Otama survived the battle, their names live on today as two men whose loyalty and bravery saved the Seireitei we all know and love."

Yamamoto sat down to another round of applause. No one noticed the coughing fit the General broke into during all the clapping.

"Thank you, thank you, General," said Inada, once again addressing the crowd. "And with that,
let's get this tournament started!" Another round of wild cheering and flashing lights.

"You all know the rules. If you fall unconscious, step out of the ring, or if the General stops the fight and declares it, you lose the match and are eliminated." He toned his voice down and smiled to the students of 3-B. "Give us a good show, alright? Don't let all the stuff I taught you in Phys Ed class go to waste. K?"

"Alright, we'll start things off with our #8 match - Chiken Kazenosei vs. Byouko Kuroda!" Another round of applause. "Would the other competitors please exit the ring."

The other members of 3-A and 3-B shuffled off the field, leaving Byouko looking glum and sullen under her hood facing against Chiken whose attention still seemed to be on the shiny lights everywhere.

Tetsu drew his sword and held it in front of his face. "Reflect, Ryokutate!" There was a cracking noise, and Tetsu's blade had transformed into a bubble of energy that surrounded him like a force field. He floated up off the ground a bit and raised his arm. "Competitors ready?"

A moment of silence. Then Tetsu brought his arm down.

"Begin!"

Byouko and Chiken - PM me five dice rolls and five actions. Also, write out any sort of potential dialogue you'd like me to work in to your battles.

AND A NOTE TO EVERYBODY - Thanks to lots of computer crashes, ability changes, me forgetting to write shit down, and other stuff, I basically have no idea what most of your abilities are anymore. THEREFORE - you are all highly encouraged to PM me with your abilities and stats along with your dice rolls, lest I forget to incorporate or include something.

I probably have everything right, I just want to make sure what's on my character sheet matches what's on yours.

Byouko kept her eyes focused on the ground. The hood over her head was tight. It would hold during her match. It had to. If it didn't... A deep breath. No. No time to think of that possibility. It simply wouldn't happen.

One by one, the other class' third-years selected their opponents. Byouko wondered who she'd be fighting. Hopefully someone that did not require her to perform any sort of feats of acrobatics.

Tetsu Inada wrote:
"And that's our..." Tetsu trailed off. There was one student without a partner. "Wait, it... looks like I may have miscounted. We've got one more slot open, and that one goes to our eighth-ranked student!"

Byouko looked to her left. All of her classmates already had an opponent. All except for... I got picked last? That shook her a little more than it should have. She wondered if there was a reason she'd been picked last.

Tetsu Inada wrote:
"And that would be...," he looked at his list. "Chiken Kazenosei!"

An auburn-haired man in his twenties answered Inada-sensei's call. Byouko recognized him. He was one of those who'd passed her and Sachi and Sarah last night on the street after that explosion. He'd been staring at the fireworks as if receiving a vision of rapture. He looked significantly more sober today, though the look in his eyes seemed just as vacant. Byouko sighed. Her hand slipped down to Nanatsume at her waist. Her father's voice was still fresh in her mind, piercing her thoughts loud and clear. Her jaw clenched tight. Her knuckles grew white around the handle of her blade.

Another deep breath. Byouko knew better than to take her aggression out on others. Still...

"I'm very sorry, it's nothing personal," she said to him, unsheathing her blade and pointing it toward his neck. "But I am in a very bad mood right now."

It's a good thing Chiken's fight was first, he wasn't leaving the ring when there was all of the pretty lights to stare at. The flashes, the sounds, and the general excitement had him mesmerized (but mostly the flashes). He didn't even notice the General's speech as he stared at the lights, 'Oh, those are pretty! They're like lightbulbs but... so much brighter! And wow, there's so many of them! They're like stars! Oh I love stars, they're so pretty! And night time is too! Except I'm always hungry at night... Hey, I think I'm hungry now even! If only that thing that guy gave me tasted good. It just tasted like... paper. Maybe it was paper? I thought it was a rice ball. Man, I am so hungry! If only I had a rice ball right now...' This train of thought continued until he saw another bright flash of light, making him start the whole thing over again.

The releasing of the announcer's zanpatukou got Chiken's attention though, and then he was wrapped in this weird bubble and floating! 'Oh oh, I want to do that! It looks so... interesting!' As Chiken stared at the floating man, he heard a few deep breaths coming from near him so he turned to see the hooded figure pull out her blade and speak. "I'm very sorry, it's nothing personal, but I am in a very bad mood right now."

Chiken blinked at this. 'Huh? What's going on? Are we supposed do pull out our swords now? Okay then...' Smiling, Chiken pulled out his blade to match her. "Oh, well I'm in a good mood and very excited about the lights! They're so bright and shiny!" He pauses for a second and cocks his head to the side, "We're supposed to talk about what we're feeling, right? And why do you have your hood up? Are we supposed to do that too? I don't have a hood so I guess I can't do that... oh well, then maybe you should put your hood down so we match!" Chiken smiled at her, having no clue she was ready to attack. In fact, he had no clue what he was even doing. He simply waited for a response of any sort to come from the hooded girl.

"I'm very sorry, it's nothing personal," Byouko said to Chiken, unsheathing her blade and pointing it toward his neck. "But I am in a very bad mood right now."

"Oh, well I'm in a good mood and very excited about the lights! They're so bright and shiny!" He paused for a second and cocked his head to the side, "We're supposed to talk about what we're feeling, right? And why do you have your hood up? Are we supposed to do that too? I don't have a hood so I guess I can't do that... oh well, then maybe you should put your hood down so we--"

Byouko cut off his babbling. "Scrape away, Nanatsume."

Game 3 - Chapter 3 - Page 6 Byouko

Her shikai was a bizarre apparatus that looked like a claw strapped to her left wrist with wires connected to caps over each of her fingers. The whole thing was centered around a shiny, glowing blue jewel on the back of her hand, which was, of course, the first thing that caught Chiken's attention.

"That's... so... COOL!" he beamed as Byouko suddenly rushed toward him at fast speed. He instinctively dodged most of her attack, though one of her claw prongs left a scrape on his right arm. "Hey, check it out, I can do that too!"

Byouko put her claw up to guard whatever Chiken was about to do. He held his sword high over his head. His words seemed to echo a little as he said, "Turn the page, Myounahanashi!"

Game 3 - Chapter 3 - Page 6 Chiken

Chiken stared in amazement at his new weapon. It looked strangely like an onmyouji staff, complete with golden rings at the tip. The grin on his face got wider. He was quite proud of what he'd done.

Byouko, though, knew an opening when she saw it. She leapt at him and drove the middle prong of her claw deep into his shoulder.

There was pain. And it hurt. A look of confusion washed over Chiken's face for a moment, then there was almost an invisible flash in his eyes. He pointed his staff at Byouko. "Way of Destruction 7: Shout!" His voice was... different somehow. His whole manner was different as the reiatsu erupted in a wave from Myounahanashi and enveloped Byouko, rolling her across the arena. The spell didn't do much damage, but Byouko was visibly shaken by the attack.

"Way of Destruction 12: Venon Needle!" A small point of reiatsu gathered at Myounahanashi's point and streamed across the room, piercing Byouko's right arm. Instantly, a look of discomfort came over Byouko's face as the poison-tainted reiatsu spread through her body. She dropped to one knee, covering the wound with her hand and narrowing her eyes at Chiken, waiting for the time to strike.

He started advancing toward her... then stopped. He blinked twice. What... was I just doing? He saw Byouko kneeling on the ground across the ring. "Oh, hey, are you ok?" he asked her. Then he noticed that his shoulder was bleeding. "Huh. When did that happen? I'd better take care of this." He put one hand over the wound. "Way of Binding 10: Restore!"

As a pulse of cool white reiatsu sealed the wound in Chiken's shoulder, Byouko saw her moment to strike. With two leaps, she crossed the whole arena. Chiken had only a moment to shoot her a single befuddled look.

Byouko drove her claw deep into Chiken's side. The auburn-headed man's eyes shot wide open as he gasped in pain. She drive her fist deeper, and then ripped the metal out of his flesh in a single stroke, sending bits of muscle and skin flying in a shower of blood.

Chiken crumpled to the ground, severely wounded, with a puddle of blood quickly pooling around him. Byouko coughed, blood in her lungs. From... that poison... She turned around and focused on her opponent. This fight wasn't over yet.

A low, otherwordly growl issued from the crumpled form on the arena floor. Slowly, he pulled himself to his feet, electricity crackling from the watch in his pocket. He wasn't smiling anymore. Instead, his face was covered in an expression of bestial rage.

Byouko attacked again, trying to finish the fight quickly, slicing open Chiken's arm, but the auburn-headed man didn't seem to notice the pain. He reached out and grabbed Byouko by the neck with one hand. He touched Myounahanashi to her face, reiatsu surging through the weapon, making the golden rings on the tip rattle and stir. "Way of Destruction 7: Shout!"

The spell caught Byouko at point-blank range, sending her tumbling. She had to drive Nanatsume into the ground to keep from blowing out of the ring. Her opponent was advancing toward her again, his reiatsu becoming more and more savage. He was definitely severely injured - Byouko had no idea how he was even still standing - but at this moment, he had the upper hand, as it would take a while for her head to clear from that spell.

Chiken had power coursing though through his entire body. The releasing of his blade filled him with power... and rage. The rage was brought forward from the hooded girl's wicked slice in his side, and it was the consuming force. The rage twisted and filled his body, coming from a place unknown to himself, and took over. Chiken's face as he stared at the girl on the ground was one full of fury, rage, and hate. The fury boiled Chiken's brain, turning it to mush (it already acted like mush, but that's beside the point). The rage inflamed Chiken's senses, dulling pain and making him literally see red. But it was the hate that was the worst of all, it took the rest of his body and wrecked it. It churned his intestines, it ground bone, it split nerves, and it was the worst feeling Chiken ever felt, yet all it did was fill him with more rage. The rage drove him and made him continue forward, being the thing taking up nearly all of his brain.

Nearly all of his brain. Buried deep, way deep, was a small, dark room. It had a few, odd blinking lights and nearly silent whirring noises, but that was the only thing making it not seem like a pure black room. And, in the corner, was the Chiken that had been there before the fight. He was curled up in a ball as tears silently rolled down his face, his eyes wide open. He couldn't close them, he couldn't close them and stop seeing the horrible things he was doing. He wanted to stop, to shut his eyes and never open them again, but he wasn't in control. He could do nothing to stop it, all he could do - and was forced to do - was watch.

Byouko's head was spinning, both from the poison and from the effects of the kidou spell. She was breathing heavily, trying to concentrate. She could barely see her opponent, slowly approaching her like a demon of the deepest Stygian depths. This wasn't the same man she'd seen yesterday, gazing at fireworks in amazement like a newborn. Her petty bitterness at her father long forgotten, Byouko couldn't help but feel as if she'd awakened a monster.

She made a quick flick of her wrist. There was a whirring, and the wires of her weapon reeled into the band around her hand, pulling tight against her fingertips. She wrapped her hand around it, letting the claw extend from her fist. There was only one way to deal with monsters.

"Chiken!"

Chiken angrily crept, step by step, toward the fallen Byouko, hate seething from every pore in his body.

"Chiken!"

He couldn't hear the voice inside his head, begging and pleading.

"Chiken! Please! Calm down! Stop what you're doing!"

It was Myounahanashi's voice. A growl issued from Chiken's throat, and he stopped moving, staring down at the ground.

"Please listen to me, Chiken," Myounahanashi continued to plead. "You're wounded. Severely wounded."

The pain in his throbbing side caught

"W...Way... of... Binding... 10... R... Res... tore..."

A flash of cool reiatsu, and the bleeding was staunched. Chiken's head jerked back and he sucked in a breath. Byouko could do nothing but watch, waiting for the shock of Chiken's last spell to subside.

"Now... Again," Myounahanashi instructed.

"Way of Binding 10... Restore..."

Another flash of reiatsu.

"Good. Now... don't you feel better?"

Chiken sucked in deep breath after deep breath. The rage was drifting from his eyes. "I... I... I... What... am... I... doing...?"

Byouko suddenly jumped to her feet. Chiken caught the movement out of the corner of his eye. "Way of Destruction 2: White Needle."

A small spark of reiatsu flew from Chiken's hand and ripped through Byouko's shoulder, but that didn't slow her down any. She wasn't flashstepping, but she was still very fast, and many of the commoners in the crowd couldn't follow her. With one long leap, she flew at Chiken.

Shik! Byouko used the momentum from her jump to drive her claw deep into Chiken's chest. A gush of blood erupted from Chiken's mouth as Byouko's attack drove him backwards. Byouko tore her claw out of Chiken's body again, causing another shower of flesh and blood. Chiken let out an otherworldly scream of anguish and began flailing around, battering Byouko with his staff and finally grabbing her by the scruff of her neck and flinging her away.

Chiken fell to his knees and then collapsed to the ground. He'd lost a lot of blood and couldn't stand. "Way... Way of D... D...," he tried to cast a spell, but didn't have the energy.
